I enjoyed reading this Max! what's the story with Bourdain and Obama? I loved his show... (the culinary one not the presidency). Did you read Bainville growing up? I was reading him yesterday and he said the french saved the US by war with Britain's navy - I never read that in any US or British history book! I guess you have to read history from all the participants! Looking forward to part deux!

https://youtu.be/gY_UGdraX7I?si=nbikUpSIADY5WgmT Here’s the video of Obama with bourdain. It’s a great watch!

I never read Bainville, but yeah France helped the US during the revolution if that’s what you’re talking about. I learned a bit about that in my highschool history classes in France. Are you a big history buff?

My travels in South East Asia have been really eye opening as far as getting both sides of the story. There’s always going to be propaganda on both sides of any conflict, it’s important to read about everything that is said to get a complete picture.

thanks, i'll check it out! I read Bainville just to practise my reading, but that stuck out, cos we never talk about it in english haha! i had to read french just to find out! makes you think.... I guess what blows my mind is the realisation that sections of different cultures align. Like the young Russians liking napoleonic ideals, and Indian merchants welcoming the British for their rule of law and travel security after mughal conflicts, and of course communists the world over supporting each other, and now current extremism. So yeah i'll look forward any historical stuff in your writing!
