I have a personal website: maxlascombe.com!
I had lots of fun making it, so I want you to check it out.
Why do I need a website? Well, as someone who’s been programming for nearly thirteen years, it’s crazy that I didn’t have one already. It should have been the first thing I put out, but better late than never.
But since I had a decade to get decent at coding, I also wanted the website to reflect that a little.
So what’s the purpose of the website?
To have all my links in one place.
To have a place to post anything new that I’m working on.
… but in a fun way!
With the help of my girlfriend, I designed a little sprite guy that walks around and talks through a speech bubble. And if he collides with anything on the website, it sends that thing flying around the screen.
Why? Because it’s fun.
Was this hard to make? As you can imagine, a list of links is straightforward to make. The tricky thing was animating the sprite and essentially building a 2D physics engine to allow boxes to collide in a way that makes sense.
I also had to make sure it works on mobile, so I had to add some button controls and think about how everything was arranged on the page to fit different screen sizes.
I had lots of fun working on this website, so I hope you check it out. (No need to scroll up, I got you: maxlascombe.com)
This is the first creative project I have completed this year. As you know, I aim to create 25 things I am proud of this year. On top of that, creating a personal website was on my bucket list, so I can check that off too!
Also, I added a second page to the website with a bunch of progress bars. The top progress bar is how far along we are into 2023 (expressed as a percentage precise to the fifteenth decimal place), and the other seven are for each of my seven New Year’s resolutions. (I’m counting this page as a second creative project towards my goal of 25.)
Anyway, the website speaks for itself, I just wanted to write a small newsletter about it so you can check it out. (Here’s the link again in case you missed it.) It’s exciting to finally talk about something I’ve been working on in the background since the beginning of the year.
I have loved setting time aside daily to work on creative projects. This website has taken a lot of time, but I’m sure future creative projects will be much quicker to finish, so I’m not too worried that I’m slightly behind schedule. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the year holds.
If you want to be in the loop to see my next creative project, please subscribe!
I also love hearing feedback on my writing, and I hope you’ll have some things to say about my website. You can dm me or comment below.
Thanks for reading, and I’ll catch you in the next one ✌️
